William L. Wright, 73, of Spruce St, Ashland, passed away at home Saturday afternoon. Born in Ashland on August 29, 1945, he was the son of the late Herman Q. And Blanche Long Wright. Bill attended Mount Carmel Schools. Following high school, Bill became a mechanic and a certified welder. He was incredibly hard working throughout his life and worked for companies such as Blaschak Coal, Dana Steel, Dickinson Crane, and several others. He became a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 542 through which he was employed until his retirement. He was also the owner/operator of B.W. Welding. Bill was a member of the American Hose Company #1 of Ashland, B.P.O. Elks Lodge #384 of Ashland, a social member of the American Legion Post 434, Ashland, and the Happy Valley Rod and Gun Club, Sullivan County. Bill loved traveling the country and going on casino trips with his wife, hunting, his cats, playing cards at the Elks with his sister Dorothy, and especially cherished the time spent with his youngest granddaughter Hadley. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Viola "Toot" Wright, who passed away November 13, 2017; a son David; and brothers Addison "James", Herman, Kerry, and Pete Wright.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 28 from 5 to 7 PM at the Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, 1323 Centre Street Ashland. Interment will be held at Noon on Thursday November 29 in the Mount Carmel Cemetery, Mount Carmel. Contributions in Bill's name may be made to the Hillside SPCA, Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901.
