Walter C. Wolfgang, 90, formerly of Girardville and Lavelle, passed away Friday May 25, 2018, at the Shamokin Geisinger Community Hospital, Coal Township. Born in Lavelle, December 4, 1927, he is the son of the late Walter and Elizabeth Sell Wolfgang. He was a graduate of the former Ashland High School, class of 1946, and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. In the Air Force, Walter made maps of the Korean Peninsula, European Countries, and the Azores, some still being used today. He was lastly employed for the Alumo Company, Mt. Carmel, as a machinist, until his retirement.
He was a member of Christ’s United Lutheran Church, Airport Road, Ashland, and the Ashland American Legion, Post #434.
Preceding him in death were sons, Otto J. Wolfgang, passing in 2014, and Alex Wolfgang, passing in 1989, a brother, Raymond Wolfgang, losing his life in WW II, sisters, Elizabeth, Emma, Anna, also brothers, Luther, Lester, Russell, Milton, Ralph, and James Wolfgang.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service, Wednesday, May 30th, at 11 AM, in Christ’s United Lutheran Church, 437 Airport Road, Ashland, PA 17921. Officiating will be Rev. Brian Beissel, pastor. A viewing will be held 10 AM until service. Interment with military honors will follow in Citizen’s Cemetery, Lavelle. Visit www.Fritzfuneralhome.com. The Richard W.
