Russell T. Smith, 92, of Waynesboro, Franklin County, former Mowry resident, passed away, Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the Quincy Retirement Village, Waynesboro. Born in Mowry, December 19, 1933, he was the son of the late Emerson and Gertrude (Runge) Smith. He was a graduate of the former Butler Township High School, class of 1951. Following high school, Russ attended Williamson Trade School, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with the 97th Signal Battalion Radio Company in Germany, attaining the rank of Specialist Three. Following his service time, he was employed as a mechanical engineer for Landis Tool Company, Waynesboro until his retirement in 1997. Russ was a member of the Penn-Mar Community Church, Cascade, Md. Preceding him in death was a son; Todd, passing September 8, 2015, a Great Grandson, Austin Staley in 2021, and brothers; Loren, Donald, and Edwin Smith.

Grandchildren: Andy Staley, Shelby Smith, Brittany Wang, Bethany Gross, and Chris Staley
Great Grand Children: Aaliyah, Aidan, and Adrian Dennis
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a grave side Celebration of Russell’s Life, with Army Military Honors, July 7, 2026, at 11 AM, in the Sunnyside Cemetery, Lavelle.
