Robert J. McCord Sr., 89, of Ashland, passed away, surrounded by family, Friday, April 28, 2023, at the Geisinger Shamokin Community Hospital, Coal Township. Born in Shenandoah, he was the son of Edward and Alice McCord. He was a graduate of the former Shenandoah High School. Robert served his country as an U.S. Army Sargent with the 619th Supply Company during the beginning of the Vietnam War. He earned the Good Conduct Metal and the Sharpshooter Rifle Badge. His employment included working for Cressona Aluminum, Moyer Construction , and lastly as a custodian for the Penn State University Campus, both of Schuylkill Haven. Preceding him in death was his wife, Jean Rhoades McCord, passing in 2017, Sisters, Mary Hysock, Bertha Ryan, also Brothers, Elwood, Charles, Thomas, and Richard McCord.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside funeral with Army Honors, Friday, May 5, 2023, at 1 PM in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. A memorial service for Jean will be conducted at the same time. Officiating will be Rev. Jeffrey Mervine, pastor of Trinity Evangelical Congregation Church, Frackville.
