Rev. Malcolm W. Burns, 85, E. 7th St., Mt. Carmel, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 15th, at the Shamokin Geisinger Hospital, Coal Township. Born in Lock Haven, August 18, 1930, he was the son of the late Allard and Naomi Gunsalis Burns. He attended Lock Haven Schools, the Allentown Bible School, and the Evangelical Congregational Seminary in Myerstown, later receiving his Master’s Degree. Malcolm proudly served in the U.S. Army as an equipment operator, with Company B of the 838th Engineer Aviation Battalion during the Korean Conflict. In 1955 he became a licensed pastor and continued to minister for area churches until retiring from The Country Church, Hegins, in 2013.
Pastor Burns was president and founder of the Holiness Ministries, Mt. Carmel, past president of the Mt. Carmel Ministerium, past president of the Lavelle Evangelical Methodist Camp, Lavelle, and served as vice president of Sharing, a Ministry donating over 13,000 Bibles to prisons.
He was honored to perform the benediction at graduation of the Mt. Carmel High School, class of 1973, and was the guest speaker for the baccalaureate of the Mt. Carmel High School class of 1975.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Jean Cappel Burns, passing on August 13, 2012, a daughter Carol, passing in 1966, a brother Raymond, sisters, Patricia Fox, Lois Kriedler, Shirley Vuocolo, and a granddaughter, Julia Parker.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service, Saturday,
June 18th, at 11 AM, from the Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, 1323 Centre St., Ashland. Officiating will re Rev. Howard McKenzie, pastor of God’s Missionary Church, Shamokin. The viewing will be held Saturday morning in the funeral home beginning at 10 AM. Interment will follow in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
