Michael Anthony Obituary

Michael (Mike) Anthony formerly of Frackville and Fountain Springs passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026 at Fellowship Retirement Community in Whitehall, PA. He was 99 years old.  Mike is predeceased by his wife Helen of 72 years.  He was the son of Joseph and Mary (Gastin) Anthony.

Mike and his brothers, Joseph and Paul, owned and operated Anthony’s Supermarket in Frackville, PA. His parents started the store in 1925 in the front of their home on oak street.  Soon after they traveled with a panel truck “Store at your door” around the Schuylkill County area before building their first supermarket in 1955 at Oak and third Streets.   After outgrowing that store they built a new and expanded Anthony’s Super Market in 1970 at Oak and 4th Streets.

During his active years in business, he was President of the supermarkets warehouse United Associated Grocers in Robesonia, PA and later became Co-Chairman of the board when the warehouse merged with Associated Wholesalers, Inc.  Mike and his brothers sold the store in 1988 to take an early retirement.

Mike enjoyed music. He played the clarinet and saxophone during his career in a local dance band. He was an active member of the Frackville Lions Club and Knights of Columbus.   He retired to Florida and enjoyed spending winters with family and friends.  Mike and Helen enjoyed traveling. In his time at Fellowship, Mike started a Bocce Ball team and encouraged friends to form a group to shoot pool. Some of his pastimes included playing pool, doing puzzles, and playing pinochle with family and friends.

Mike is pre-deceased by his brothers Arthur, Joseph, and Paul Anthony.  He is survived by two siblings, Helen Ferris of Wilmington, Delaware and Louis Anthony of Allentown, as well as four children, Michael (Mary Beth), Susan (David Stortz), Stephen, and Christine Kosman(Ronald ).  He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Mike was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Whitehall PA.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11am at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 49 N. Line Street, Frackville, PA on Friday February 6, 2026. Visitation 10am-11am.  Burial will be private.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mike’s memory can be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 4456 Main Street Whitehall, PA  18052 or Fellowship Community, 3000 Fellowship Drive, Whitehall PA  18052.
