John Kimmel, 91, of Lavelle, passed away May 7, 2023, at the Bloomsburg Care Center, Bloomsburg. Born in Hegins Township, August 7, 1931, he was the son of Rufus and Laura Savage Kimmel. He attended Hegins Township High School, and was employed as a lifelong coal miner, retiring from the Hegins Mining Company in 1980. Following his mining employment, he worked at Kennedy Van Saun, Danville, for eight years as an assembler. John was a member of Christ’s United Lutheran Church, Airport Road, Ashland. Preceding him in death was his wife, Katie, passing March 4, 2015, Sisters, Mary Kimmel, and Carol Daily, also Brothers, Wilmer, Monroe, Daniel, Melvin, Palmer, Chester Kimmel, and Guy Heim.

Sister: Marie Banach, Philadelphia

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life funeral service, May 11, 2023, at 1:30 PM, in Christ United Lutheran Church, 434 Airport Road, Ashland. Officiating will be Rev. Dana Heckman Beil, pastor of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Ashland. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Barry Township. A visitation will be held in the church beginning at 12:30 PM until service. Memorials may be made to Christ’s United Lutheran Church, 437 Airport Road, Ashland, PA 17921.
