Henry R. Shoup, 69, of Mount Carmel, passed away at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville on Friday April 1, 2016, surrounded by his family. Born at the former Ashland State Hospital on February 24, 1947, he was the son of the late Richard and Mary Snowden Shoup. Henry graduated Ashland Area High School, Class of 1966. Following high school, Henry joined the U.S. Navy as a communications specialist serving in the Vietnam War, until he was honorably discharged in 1969. He was employed as a coal miner, and later worked with his brother, Joe Shoup Contracting, until his retirement. Henry married the former Geraldine Radzewicz in 1998. He was a member of the former Zion Lutheran Church, Girardville; a lifetime member of the VFW Post #2110 Mount Carmel and the O’Donnell-Martin-Baldino VFW Post# 7654 Ashland; and the American Legion Post #91, Mount Carmel. In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by a grandson Damien Deeter; a sister, Mary Brewer; brother John E. Shoup; and stepson James Collier.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with military honors on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 12:30 P.M. at Indiantown National Gap Cemetery, Annville, with the Rev. Dr. Kim L. Lengert, officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday April 7th from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, 1323 Centre St. Ashland.
