Eugene S. Scheuren, 86, of Barry Township, passed away Thursday April 7th 2016 at the Broad Mountain Nursing Center, Frackville, where he had been a guest for the past 6 years. Born November 13, 1929, Eugene was the son of the late Sylvester Wes and Anna Zarkis Scheuren. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family. He graduated from the former Hegins Township High School, class of 1947. Gene served in the U.S. Army, completing basic training at Fort Bragg, N.C, and later was a member of the Army’s Engineering Corp during the Korean conflict. He was married to the former Mary Teresa Wydra for 54 years, until her passing on April 5, 2009. Gene served as Constable for the Barry Township polling booths. He coached his sons Barry Township Little League team for several years, and was a third generation farmer passing this legacy on to his son. Gene would describe himself as a pretty decent bowler in the Elks bowling league. He and Tess never missed an opportunity to show their polka dancing skills. Gene was a member of the former St. Elizabeth’s Chapel, Lavelle and the former St. Mauritius R.C. Church, Ashland, now the St. Charles Borromeo R.C. Church, Ashland. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge# 384, Ashland, serving twice as the Exhalted Ruler. Gene was also a member of the Ashland Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister Joan Sarnosky.

Two Great Grandchildren: Cole and Brady Vance
Sister in Law: Katherine Wydra Tallon, Tower City
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 11 A.M. in the St. Vincent’s Worship Center, 250 N. 2nd St and Mahanoy Ave, Girardville. Celebrant will be the Rev. Robert Finlan. A viewing will be held at the church April 12 from 10 A.M. until the time of service. Interment will follow in New St. Mauritius Cemetery, Ashland.
