Doris A. Hinkel, 85, of Hinkel Road, Ashland, passed away January 14, 2015 at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, Coal Township. Born in Lavelle on October 5, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Esther Knock Klauger. Doris graduated from Butler Township High School, Class of 1948, and was a lifelong member of St. John’s Kimmels Church, Barry Township. She was married to the late George F. Hinkel, who proceeded her in death on September 22, 1999. Doris was the church secretary, and she was the Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years until her time of death. She coordinated the Vacation Bible School at the church, and also was a cook at the Herndon Camp for more than 30 years. Doris was on the Tri-Valley Library Board of Directors, and also the Hegins Area Ambulance Association, Board of Directors. She was involved with the Bethany Children’s Home, Womelsdorf, and the Phoebe Ministries Nursing Home, Allentown. She loved collecting angels, doing crossword puzzles, reading, and most of all being involved with her family. Doris was the life of her family. In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by a brother Daniel Klauger.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a visitation at St. John’s Kimmel’s Church, Deep Creek Road, Ashland on Monday January 18, 2015 from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at 10:30 A.M. Officiating will be Rev. Bonnie L. Yeager, pastor. Doris will be laid to rest in the parish cemetery. Because she was well known for her love of wearing anything purple, the family requests that you honor this by wearing something purple to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. John’s Kimmel’s Church Memorial Fund, 1263 Deep Creed Road, Ashland, PA 17921.
