Doris Herb Obituary

Doris E. Herb, 93, former Lavelle resident, passed away Friday, August 12, 2022, at the Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.  Born in Lavelle, February 28, 1929, she was the daughter of the late G. Elmer and Leona Banning Leach.  She was a graduate of the former Ashland High School, class of 1947. and a homemaker, loving to spend time with her family.

Doris was a member of the former St. Mauritius Roman Catholic Church,  now Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Parish both of Ashland.  She was the care taker for the former Saint Elizabeth’s Catholic Chapel, Lavelle, a mission church of the former Saint Mauritius Catholic Church, Ashland, as well as an Eucharistic Minister serving Mass in Lavelle.  Doris was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Saint Joan of Arc Chapter, Ashland.

She was a member of the former Ashland Regional Medical Center auxiliary, Fountain Springs, and worked for many years for the Schuylkill County Election Verification Board.

Preceding her in death was her husband, William Herb Sr., passing May 9, 1993, a daughter Elena “Lanie” Herb, passing February 7, 2020, a twin sister, Dorothy Leach Shadle, passing September 22, 2018, a granddaughter Chloe Boyer in 2005, brothers, Harlan and Donald Leach, and sisters, Rose Bogetti and Catherine Flannery.

Doris loved being a twin.  As a child and teenager she and her twin sister Dorothy enjoyed switching places in classes at school, and sometimes on dates.  She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, and going to the beach.

Daughter:  Carolee, wife of Glenn Zimmerman, Ashland

Daughter:  Catherine wife of Rod Case, Berea Ohio

Son:  William “Butch” Herb, and his fiancé Karen Becker, Lavelle

Brother:  William Leach, Secane, PA

Brother:  David Leach

Grandchildren:  Jessica wife of Dave Boyer, William Hrichak, Janelle wife of Kyle Berry, Jeffrey and husband Brian Ebersole, Emily Herb, Ben, Maggie, Julie Case

Great Grandchildren:  Lily Boyer, Declan and Liam Hrichak

Sister in Law:  Marian Erdman, Hegins

Brother in Law:  Forrest Shadle, Lavelle

Nieces and Nephews

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Prayer Service, Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 11 AM, in the Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, 1323 Centre St., Ashland.  Officiating will be Rev. Giuseppe Esposito, pastor of Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Parish, Ashland.  Interment will be in the Citizen’s Cemetery, Lavelle.  A visitation will begin at 9 AM until service.  Visit www.Fritzfuneralhome.com.
