Donald R. Smith Sr., 86, of Kulpmont, former Mowry resident, entered into eternal rest Friday, March 4, 2022, at the Geisinger Shamokin Community Hospital, Coal Township. Born in Mowry, May 17, 1935, he was the son of Emerson and Gertrude Runge Smith of Lavelle. He was a graduate of the former Butler Township High School, Fountain Springs, class of 1952. Don proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve for six years, attaining the rank of a Specialist 5. He was a past member of the Christ Independent Church, Mowry, Christ Evangelical Congregation Church, Lavelle, Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Schuylkill Haven, and the First United Methodist Church, Kulpmont, where he served on the church council. Don was employed as a machinist for the TRW Company, Danville, later retiring from the Textron Corporation, Danville. Preceding him in death were brothers Loren and Edwin Smith.
Wife: Barbara Fodor Smith, would have been married 60 years on April 28th.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life funeral service, March 12, 2022, at 11 AM in the Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, 1323 Centre St., Ashland. Officiating will be Rev. Beverly Petrovich, pastor of the Trevorton United Church, Trevorton, and Rev. Julian Milewski, pastor of the Ringtown Aurand Memorial Methodist Church, Ringtown.
