Charles A. Lucas, 87, of 10 Main St., Ashland, former Gordon resident, passed away Wednesday morning, October 11th, at his residence. Born in Lavelle, September 5, 1930, he was the son of the late Charles and Carrie Mae Kukuk Lucas. He attended the Gordon Elementary School, leaving in the eighth grade to mine coal and support his family after his father’s death. Charles later served with the U.S. Army in Korea as a missile man with the Battery A of the third Division, and a missile launcher with Battery A of the 111th Artillery Division. A coal miner his entire life, he last worked for the Hegins Mining Company until his retirement.
He was of the protestant faith, and a member of the former Lavelle AMVETS. Preceding him in death was his wife Judith Basalay Lucas, passing August 7, 2017, a step son Donald Hockenberry, brothers, Willard, who died in WW II and Alfred, also sisters, Ruth Zeller, Helen Cuthie, Catherine Morgan, and Blanche Carl.

Four Grandchildren: David and Brandon Brown, and Michael and Sean McCollum
Two Great Grandchildren: Keegan and Kaden Brown
