Catherine T. (Kitty) Silvestri Obituary

Catherine T. “Kitty” Silvestri, 95, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023.  Born at home in Ashland, April 11, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Madeline Long Doolin.  She was a graduate of the former St. Joseph School, class of 1945, Ashland.  Kitty had been employed for the Bell Telephone Company, the former Cardinal Brennan High School in the Cafeteria, Boscov’s and the Ashland Public Library.  She was a lifetime member of the former St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, now the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Parish, Ashland, and the Saint Anne’s Guild Catholic Daughters.  Kitty enjoyed shopping, traveling, and entertaining friends for the holiday get-togethers. Her favorite pastime was spending time with family and friends. She was known as the “Top of the Town Hostess” for the Ashland Boys Association ABA Parade, meeting old friends, and offering water to the marchers as they made the turn from Walnut Street to 21st Street.  Kitty loved traveling to Canada, Canary Islands, England, Hawaii, Ireland, as well as cruises through the Caribbean Islands and the Panama Canal.  She loved Broadway Shows, family trips to the New York World’s Fair, Niagara Falls, Philadelphia, Poconos, Washington, D.C., and Wildwood, N.J.  Kitty volunteered as a driver for the American Cancer Society, and the Schuylkill County Meals on Wheels.  She was a very special lady who was kind, generous, much loved, respected and admired.  As Mike would always say, “Mom is the best Mom God ever created”.

Preceding her in death were husbands, Raymond J. Madden and Ralph A. Silvestri, a son Raymond Madden, and a brother, Daniel Doolin.
