Bessie Marie Smith

Bessie Marie Smith, 93, former Mowry resident, passed away Saturday morning, February 18th, at the Mt. Carmel Nursing Center, Mt. Carmel. Born in Pitman, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Carrie Broscious Haas. Bessie was a graduate of the former Ashland High School, class of 1940, and was employed as a sewing machine operator for the Ashland Shirt Company, later retiring in 1977 from the Christie Ann Shirt Company, Gordon.

She was a member of Christ Independent Church, Lavelle.

Preceding her in death was her husband, James E. Smith, passing in September 2010, a brother Bert Haas, sisters Pauline Wolfgang, and Erma Smith, also a granddaughter Jenna Marie Smith in September 2016.

7 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service, Tuesday, February 21st, at 11 AM in the Christ Independent Church, Lavelle. Officiating will be Rev. Alan Ward, pastor. A visitation hour will begin at 10 AM until service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Christ Independent Church, 259 Main St., Ashland, PA 17921.
