George E. Maurer, 95, of Mabel Road, Ashland, passed away with family by his side at his residence, Tuesday, April, 16, 2024. Born in Barry Township, August 6, 1928, he was the son of Charles and Dora Kessler Maurer. He was a graduate of the former Hegins Township High School, class of 1947. After high school he entered the U.S. Army. He served in the Korean Conflict, as a line man, earning the Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, and the United Nations Service Medal. Following his military service, he entered the Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport Iowa, graduating in 1964. George had a chiropractic office in Valley View, retiring in 1988. He later was employed as a Regional Sales Manager for the Pottsville Republican Newspaper, Pottsville, until his retirement. George was well known for his love of flowers; along with his wife, Deloris, they sold many different types of flowers next to their home. He was a member of the Barry Salem United Methodist Church, Mabel, serving as Treasurer and Sunday School teacher for many years. Preceding him in death were sisters, Alma Barnhart, Hazel Minnich, Lottie Bossler, also brothers, Warren, Elmer, Alvin, Ralph, Harry, Harold “Penrose” and John Maurer.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of George’s Life Memorial Service, Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 3 PM, with Army Military Honors, in the Barry Salem United Methodist Church, 844 Deep Creek Road, Barry Township. Officiating will be Ben Scholl, Pastor. Visitation in the church will begin at 2 PM.
